Throne

The Throne of Johor consists of a larger chair for the Sultan and a smaller chair for his Consort. It is placed on a three-tiered platform (peterana), wrapped in blue velvet, in the centre of the Throne Room. The legs of the chairs are carved to resemble the legs of the tiger and mounted on top of small spheres symbolising the sovereignty, justice and strength of the ruler.

The arms at the extremities are carved in the shape of a roaring tiger’s head. The tiger was chosen as a symbol of strength, bravery and majesty by other wild beasts in Malaysia. The apex of the throne has a coat-of-arms with the seal inscribed with the words “Unto Allah Resigned” as affirmed by Sultan Abu Bakar and subsequent Sultans.
